You must purchase online at least one week prior to each day of camp. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Email confirmations are sent after purchasing a program.
While we prefer online registration, you may also schedule an appointment to meet with our Registrar at 260-424-2400 ext. 451 to purchase a camp. Camps cannot be purchased over the phone. Note: Online purchasers will receive preferential treatment over in-person purchasers.
The deadline to make changes to your registration or to cancel a camp registration is 14 days prior to the event. No additions, subtractions, or refunds can be made after that date. A full refund will be issued if the registration is cancelled at least 14 days prior to the event. To make changes or cancel your camp registration, contact the Registrar at (260)424-2400 ext. 451.
An EMA form must be filled out for each registered camper. This form is where you will provide emergency contact information as well as any medical issues and/or allergies that we should be aware of to provide the best experience for your camper. This form must be filled out for each camp season (Winter Break, Spring Break, and Summer Camp).
We prefer that you complete the form online and submit it electronically, at least 7 days prior to your registered camp start date. You will receive information on how to access the form in your confirmation email.
Also attached in the confirmation email is a PDF version of the EMA form that you may print out, complete, and bring with you to Science Central on the first day of your child’s registered camp.
For the safety of our campers, campers will not be allowed to stay for camp if they do not have a completed EMA form.
Camp sign-in will begin 30 minutes prior to your camp’s start time listed on your confirmation letter. Please allow extra time daily for drop off to camp. Sign-in is inside Science Central, so individuals dropping off campers MUST COME IN with their campers. Every day at sign-in, you will sign in your camper, and then provide us with the name of the person expected to pick-up your camper at the end of the day. You may designate authorized people to pick up your children on your child’s EMA form. Only approved (listed in the EMA) individuals may pick up campers. During sign-in, if you didn’t already complete it online, you will also turn in your EMA form to the person at the front desk. After your camper is signed in, they will get a wristband for the day, put their lunch in their classroom, and then go downstairs to explore the exhibit floor with other campers and staff until morning orientation.
Casual dress is appropriate. Please consider that some activities are messy and some will take place outside. For winter and spring camps, please ensure your camper is wearing a coat and other necessary gear in case we go outside. During summer camp, sunscreen and bug spray should be applied in the morning before camp.
Children must be toilet trained to attend camp. If an accident happens during camp, the parent will be called to change the child’s clothes.
If your camper’s behavior disrupts other camper experiences, the Camp Director will speak with your child privately. The parent/guardian will only be called if the situation becomes unmanageable and only in an extreme situation will you be asked to remove your child. There will be no refund for dismissal due to behavioral, emotional, or psychological situations that are disruptive to the camp program or harmful to the campers.
Science Central provides one snack in the morning and one snack in the afternoon for campers. Campers must bring their own lunch to camp. We DO NOT provide lunch for campers. Please send a non-perishable sack lunch with your full-day camper. Refrigeration is not available. If your child has any special dietary restrictions, please make sure to notify us of the restriction on the medical form. Meeting special dietary snack needs is the responsibility of the camper’s parent/guardian, however we will provide a “Peanut Free” table for campers with peanut allergies.
Camp sign-out will begin 15 minutes prior to your camp’s end time listed on your confirmation letter. Please allow extra time daily for pick-up from camp. Sign-out is inside Science Central, so individuals picking-up campers MUST COME IN to retrieve their campers. Only approved (listed in the EMA) individuals may pick up campers. Guardians picking up campers will be asked to sign a sign-out sheet with the camp director before they are able to take their campers.
If you are more than 15 minutes late to pick up your camper, you will be charged $15 for every 5 minutes past pick-up time, based on our clock. If you are more than one hour late to pick-up your child, Fort Wayne Police Department will be notified.
Campers will experience hands-on science through classroom activities, demonstrations, experiments and floor exploration. Activities are age-appropriate.
Ages 3-5 have a ratio of 6 children to 1 adult at camp. Ages 5-11 have a ratio of 8 children to 1 adult. Ages 10-13 have a ratio of 9 children to 1 adult.
An adult must come into the building to drop off and pick up campers each day. Only authorized adults, as specified on the EMA form, may sign a child out of camp.
If your child is arriving after the designated check-in time, you can speak with someone at the front desk when Science Central opens at 10AM and they will notify the Camp Director of your arrival. Please let the camp staff know at time of check-in if your child needs to be picked up early from camp. Please allow extra time for an early check-out.
In order to be administered by Science Central, medication MUST be provided in an appropriate prescription bottle or accompanied by a doctor’s prescription note. (Please see Emergency Medical Authorization form).
Certain camp activities may take the campers outside the building into our courtyard or into Lawton Field, and/or Lawton Park. Campers will always be escorted by and under the supervision of our camp counselors.
